Dutch TV programme explores sustainable food packaging at Klöckner Pentaplast site

Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) Food Packaging is featured in a recent episode of the Dutch television programme Doe Maar Duurzaam (‘Just Be Sustainable’), which focuses on sustainability challenges and developments across industry.

Filmed at kp’s innovation hub and manufacturing site in Featherstone, UK, the episode forms part of the programme’s editorial coverage of how industrial organisations are addressing environmental and resource-related challenges. The format does not promote individual companies or products, but instead examines broader themes linked to sustainable design, material use and manufacturing processes.

Within this context, the episode explores the role of food packaging in balancing performance, resource efficiency and sustainability. It considers how packaging must protect products, reduce food waste and respond to evolving regulatory requirements, often requiring trade-offs, rather than single, straightforward solutions.
The programme follows the development process from early-stage concept work through to manufacturing, providing insight into how packaging formats are designed, tested and translated into scalable production. It also highlights the importance of considering the full lifecycle of packaging, including material selection, processing, consumer use and end-of-life pathways.
Ben Elkington, VP Marketing & Innovation, Food Packaging at kp, who appears in the programme, commented:

“Sustainability in food packaging is inherently complex, as it involves multiple variables, from material selection through to performance requirements and regulatory considerations. There is no single solution that addresses every challenge. Programmes like this play an important role in helping to explain that complexity more clearly.”

Doe Maar Duurzaam is broadcast on SBS6 and is also available via streaming in the Netherlands. The episode featuring kp was broadcast early July 2026.
