Medical device manufacturers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce environmental impact without compromising package performance, regulatory compliance or processing efficiency. kp offers two distinct approaches through SecondLife® MD and kpNext® MDR1, allowing customers to choose the sustainability pathway that best fits their packaging goals.
Both ranges are designed to maintain the clarity, protection and processing performance required for medical device packs. Options are available for thermoformed trays, blisters and sterile barrier applications across orthopedic, surgical, wound care, cardiovascular and other medical device categories. SecondLife® MD reduces virgin resin use, while kpNext® MDR1 is designed for the PET recycling stream. Both are intended to retain medical-packaging processability and performance.
SecondLife® MD uses up to 50% certified recycled content through an ISCC PLUS mass-balance approach. It is medical-grade PETG designed to offer formability, impact resistance and clarity comparable with virgin PETG.
Pentamed® kpNext® MDR1 is a copolyester blend designed for recyclability in the RIC 1 PET stream. It is positioned as a plug-and-play alternative with strong clarity, protection and processing performance on thermoforming lines.

They are films designed to reduce reliance on virgin materials or improve packaging recyclability while maintaining the protection, processability and regulatory performance required for medical device packs.
SecondLife® MD contains up to 50% certified recycled content using an ISCC PLUS mass-balance approach.
kpNext® MDR1 is designed for recyclability in the RIC 1 PET stream and has achieved RecyClass® Class A certification. Actual collection and recycling depend on local infrastructure.
The products are designed to deliver processing performance comparable with conventional medical packaging films, and kpNext® MDR1 is described as a plug-and-play option. Line trials and grade-specific validation are still recommended.
SecondLife® MD supports EtO, gamma, E-beam and steam sterilisation. kpNext® MDR1 supports EtO, gamma and E-beam according to current product information.
Applications include orthopedic, endoscopy, neurological, cardiovascular, surgical, wound care, vision and ENT packaging, with dental applications also listed for kpNext® MDR1.
