kp and me: Aida Cierco - 60 years of kp edition

Aida Cierco's role as Group Sustainability Director enables her to combine her passion for building a more sustainable future with her desire to drive tangible impact.

We recently revisited Aida’s journey with kp, and here is what she had to share.

What do you do at kp?

As Group Sustainability Director, based in Barcelona, I lead the charge on Investing in Better – our company-wide sustainability strategy. I oversee the development and communication of the strategy, lead engagement with stakeholders and collaboration with organisations throughout our value and ensure we’re monitoring and reporting on kp’s progress. I’m very values-driven and take pride in making a tangible impact as we play our part in building a more sustainable future.

What’s your background and how long have you worked at kp for?

I joined kp as a Sustainability Manager in 2019 and haven’t had a slow day since. Before that, I worked at Nespresso, where I was involved in the development of their sustainability strategy, reporting and communication.

I’ve studied and worked in many countries and have an Agricultural Technical Engineering Degree, a Master's in Agricultural Engineering and a Master’s in Environmental Water Management.

What is the best thing about the sustainability team?

I must give a big shout out to everyone involved in driving sustainability across the business for their dedication to delivering impactful change. They have worked tirelessly to engage with colleagues across kp, its divisions and teams.

It was great to hit one of our major milestones – we reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 52% compared to our 2019 baseline, which is a key climate target for us.

What excites you about your job?

Every day delivers new challenges. First and foremost, we’re focused on delivering on our current Investing in Better targets, making sure we complete on the commitments we've already made.

Alongside this, we’re refreshing our strategy to reflect where we are and where we want to get to.

Another important part of my job is staying aligned with new regulations, market trends, and stakeholder priorities as we shape the next phase of kp’s sustainability journey.

It was great to hit one of our major milestones – we reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 52% compared to our 2019 baseline, which is a key climate target for us. As a business, we have also maintained an Ecovadis gold sustainability rating for four consecutive years, and since commencing CDP reporting, a known standard for corporate climate transparency, we’ve consistently earned a B score.

Have you had to take on new challenges at kp?

I thrive on a challenge, but stepping into the role of Global Sustainability Director is up there with the most exciting professional opportunities I’ve had. I enjoy working with a wider sustainability cross-functional team to keep momentum and ensure consistent progress.

We’re currently putting stronger emphasis on tracking key sustainability KPIs, helping us better understand what’s working and where we can do more. And we’ve made big strides in how we communicate our sustainability efforts, both internally across teams and externally with our stakeholders.

I’m inspired by the way people across kp consistently show up for each other. There is a strong sense of collaboration and mutual support, and I’ve learned a lot over the past six years, largely thanks to the people around me.
