What do you do at kp?

My official job title is Buyer II. My role sees me look after the purchase of anything that isn’t raw materials for our Gordonsville site, and for KBF across the road. That could be packaging, computers, or maintenance supplies. I’ve also been involved in planning for the Procurement Centre of Excellence opening in Portugal this summer which is exciting.

How long have you worked at kp for?

I joined kp in July 2021, and can honestly say it is the best move I’ve ever made.
I’m a two-time breast cancer survivor, I found myself in search of new opportunities following a change in personal circumstances. I interviewed with kp and was offered a position on the shop floor. I wasn’t sure I could take on such a physical job, but I gave it a go and here we are now!

What is the best thing about your team?

My role sees me support two departments – which means I get to be part of two great teams. I love the global nature of my role; it’s meant I’ve been able to meet so many different people along the way.
Since my very first day, I’ve felt so welcomed at kp. Joining a work environment after an extended period as a stay-at-home mom was quite daunting. But I’ve felt so supported and have been given opportunities to grow which is a pretty good combination in my opinion.
I have a real sense of belonging and am proud to be part of the extended family we have at Gordonsville.

What excites you about your job?

I can honestly say everything. From the people I work with to the projects I get to contribute to, through to the focus we have here at kp on sustainability… it is all really interesting.
I’ve also got a schedule that is compatible with family life, and excellent benefits.

Have you had to take on new challenges at kp?

Starting my life over at 50 wasn’t where I expected I’d be, but from the moment I stepped onto the production floor on my first day at kp, I’ve been pushed to challenge myself. I didn’t think I had it in me to take on such a physical role, and to succeed in what is often perceived as a male dominated job. But I was given the right training and tools, and room to grow and build my confidence.
Over the past three years, I’ve been given lots of opportunities which I’ve grabbed with both hands. I never thought I’d be able to tell friends and family I am certified to drive a forklift, or that I could operate a grinder. And I hadn’t considered a career in procurement. But here we are! I’ve not only shocked myself, but those around me so to anyone considering a career change, I now say they should just go for it as the reality may not be anywhere near as scary as predicted.
Most recently, my involvement in the Procurement Team saw me travel to Portugal to participate in a series of workshops. That was a great opportunity to contribute to kp’s procurement strategy, whilst building relationships with my global counterparts.

Have you been inspired by any of your colleagues?

There are so many people I could list here, but I’m going to give a shout out to the women I know working in our plants, on the factory side of the business, who show strength, confidence, and empathy each and every day.

What’s next?

So many of my values and passions align with the direction kp is taking. I can see kp is encouraging of women in management, and I’d love to forge a path and grow with the company and secure a leadership role in the future. As co-chair of the Women’s Network, I have so much more I want to give to this employee resource network (ERN).
We’re here to provide kp employees at all levels within the organisation a place to network, and we place an emphasis on expanding inclusivity as we empower women through sharing worldwide perspectives, discussing aspirations and providing mentorship opportunities.

What do you get up to outside of work?

I love spending time with my family, and I can always be found making interior updates at home. I love to travel, and my favourite place is the beach! I’ve also been known to do a bit of painting and karaoke with friends, but I’ve got too many top songs to be able to pick one!
