Unpacking the journey to PPWR

We provide a background to PPWR and the global shifts that led to its introduction. Previously, European states operated under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD), which set targets for packaging waste reduction, but did not dictate how those targets should be met. This led to a fragmented picture of waste legislation across Europe – one that PPWR aims to harmonise.

Understanding this context is vital for unpacking the aims of PPWR, which will support businesses as the legislation continues to evolve.

What is PPWR? Key Articles explained

There are over 70 Articles and 13 Annexes that make up the text of PPWR, setting new laws on packaging recyclability, labelling, waste prevention, and more. Many of these articles set phased targets that will evolve over time. Our eBook breaks down the most important Articles that will have the biggest impact on your business, in simple, jargon-free terms, providing a comprehensive timeline of changes running from now until 2040.

How can we help?
