Klöckner Pentaplast’s new emissions reduction targets validated by SBTi services

Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) has received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Services for its new near-term, science-based, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets, reinforcing the company’s commitment to reducing emissions across its operations and value chain.
kp has set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 75% by 2030 from a 2019 base year. The company has also committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 36.5% over the same timeframe. The targets were validated by SBTi Services on 22 October 2026.

Initially founded as a collaboration between CDP, United Nations Global Compact, We Mean Business Coalition, World Resources Institute (WRI), and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), SBTi is a corporate climate action organisation that develops the standards, tools, and guidance which enable companies and financial institutions worldwide to take credible, science-based climate action to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

Michael Zacka, Chief Executive Officer of kp, said: “The validation by SBTi Services of our new GHG emissions reduction targets is an important milestone for kp and reflects our determination to continue raising our ambition on climate action. Reducing emissions across our own operations and our wider value chain requires sustained focus and collaboration, and these targets give us a clear framework for the progress we want to make through to 2030.”

kp has also set out its new Investing in Better Sustainability plan for 2026-2030.  This establishes four objectives that will help kp to continue building resilience and use resources more efficiently, while protecting the environment and supporting its people and communities.  It also ensures that kp’s portfolio of products will continue to reinforce its leadership in responsible packaging.
